STUDENTS
Palliative Care clinical education at the Life Quality Institute promotes a professional culture of care and optimism replacing the previous culture of fear and failure when serving patients with incurable and progressive illnesses. The Institute employs individualized curricula to meet a broad base of specific learning needs focused on alleviating physical, spiritual, and psychosocial suffering. Programs are designed for diverse populations including students, residents, physicians, practicing health professionals, pastoral caregivers, pharmacists, social workers, and nurses.
Students at the University of Colorado Schools of Medicine and Nursing have an opportunity to write about an experience that has had a significant impact on how they will practice medicine. Student writings offer a glimpse into the soul of palliative care and end-of-life medicine.
In collaboration with the University of Colorado Schools of Medicine and Nursing, Life Quality Institute has specifically designed palliative care education for medical, nursing and physician assistant students. Course syllabi are available online for:
WHAT THE STUDENTS ARE SAYING:
"We would all like to thank [Life Quality Institute] for what you do for students and let you know that we wish that we could have had more time with you. The short time spent with [LQI] will always be remembered and the patients we saw will forever go with us as we become health care providers. Thank you for teaching us such indelible lessons and thank you for caring for patients in such a way that we can learn what it truly means to be compassionate."
- Ashley Birger, Physician Assistant Student
A Special Thanks
The Life Quality Institute thanks the following organizations for participating in our student education programs by providing preceptors for medical and nursing students, and residents. Preceptors are key to the success of training students. A special thank you to the organizations and the individual preceptors for giving time to advance palliative care in our community.
